Money Smart Kids Essay Contest
One 6th-8th Grade Student Will Win $2000!
BLOOMINGTON, IL – An important part of the annual Money Smart Week program, the Money Smart Kids Essay Contest offers a $2000 scholarship to the winner and is accepting entries from February 1-29 at www.pantagraph.com/moneysmart.
Mid-Illini Credit Union is pleased to support this program for the third year in a row. This year, any sixth through eighth grade student who lives in McLean County, Illinois is eligible to enter this contest with an essay of 500 words or less that answers the 2012 Money Smart question:
Decision Making & Money – Give an example of when it is wise to borrow money and when it is not. What factors do you need to consider to help you make a responsible choice? Please be sure to discuss the concepts of decision-making and opportunity cost in your answer.
Essays will be judged on how well the question is answered, not the number of topics addressed.
Five finalists will be selected for interviews with the judges and one winner will receive a $2000 scholarship (sponsored by CEFCU), at the 2012 Money Smart Week kick-off event on April 18. The runners up will each receive special recognition and prizes.
Money Smart Week is an annual event created by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. During this week, financial institutions, businesses, government offices and others across the state work together to sponsor free financial education programming in their communities.
Dates for the 2012 event are April 21-28, and this will be the fifth year for the program here in Bloomington-Normal. For more information, visit Money Smart Week’s official Facebook page for Bloomington-Normal at www.facebook.com/MoneySmartWeekBN.
